Chinese/French, b.1921 Zao Wou-Ki received his early training in China and held his first exhibition in Shanghai in 1946. He then visited Europe, eventually settling in Paris and becoming a French citizen in 1964. Much influenced by Paul Klee he developed a highly individual style incorporating Chinese and Western elements; he became world renowned for his abstract paintings and prints, derived from his early interest in Chinese calligraphy to abstract impressionism |
