Wallace was born in Somerset and studied at the Liverpool College of Art, at the Royal Academy Schools and the Royal College of art. He became a sculptor of large figures in metal and in 1973 was awarded the Sainsbury Prize for Sculpture. There are many commissioned large works by him in various venues in Britain and he also has a following for his smaller interior sculptures. His print oeuvre is very small, confined to strong etchings in black and white
